Funding to
Fight Meth
Proposed for ‘07
South Dakota
Governor Mike Rounds wants to continue the state’s fight against Meth, with
$3-million slated for the battle in his proposed budget for next year. He
introduced a four-pronged program to fight Meth use and abuse across the state.
Key points of
the governor’s proposal include:
- $1.8
Million for a new Meth treatment program at the women’s prison (including 16
full-time positions)
- $207,000
for a drug court in the state court system (three positions)
- $700,000
for Meth treatment programs funded by the Department of Human Services
- $276,000
for an education campaign aimed at the state's schools.
House
Democratic leader Dale Hargens not only supports the proposals, but cautioned
that the fight against Meth in South Dakota may require even more funding.
