State Statistics:

SD Dept. of Corrections prison intakes from July 2007 through June 2008:
          8% of adult males have a primary diagnosis of Meth addiction
          25% of adult males report using Meth.
          26% of adult females have a primary diagnosis of Meth addiction
          47% of adult females report using Meth

In South Dakota 12% of 12th Grade females and 8% of 12th grade males have used Meth one or more times during their lives.

The Client Services Summary for people seeking treatment shows that Meth has grown as the primary drug of choice - from approximately 1% in 2000 to roughly 5% in 2008.  Clients with a Meth diagnosis (either dependency or abuse) during fiscal year 2008 reached 2,150 - up from 1,320 in FY2005.

v Meth ‘cooks’ can get almost everything they need to manufacture a batch in local stores – legally.

v A majority of lab incidents involve children
v Many child abuse and neglect cases are the result of Meth use or manufacturing.
