Many
of the Meth labs discovered in this area have been mobile labs. It
is no longer safe to assume that a vehicle parked along one of South
Dakota’s country roads is a motorist in need of assistance. Stopping to
offer help might now put you face-to-face with an angry and paranoid
person. Armed with the dangerous chemicals needed to make Meth (and
sometimes weapons, too) Meth cooks often park along country roads where
they can sit, undisturbed for several hours, to cook a batch of Meth in
their trunk or back seat. If you see a vehicle that you don’t recognize,
especially one that contains out-of-town or out -of-state license plates,
parked along a low maintenance county road, do not approach it. Instead,
call your local law enforcement office to report it. If it is a
motorist in need of help, the authorities will soon arrive to offer
assistance. But if the vehicle is serving as a Meth lab, law
enforcement is trained and equipped to handle the danger.
Please
teach your children and young drivers to do the same!

Murdered
Trooper
Nikky J. Green
was shot and killed by a subject while checking on a vehicle near Devol,
Oklahoma on Dec. 26, 2003. Trooper Green had advised he was out on a
possible disabled vehicle. When dispatch checked and did not receive an
answer from Trooper Green, a Cotton County Deputy was sent to the scene
and found Trooper Green had been shot. Review of the in-car video tape
indicated that the suspect was cooking Methamphetamine and while
attempting to arrest the suspect, a fight ensued. Ricky Ray Malone was
convicted and sentenced to death. Trooper Green is survived by his wife
and 3 daughters.
