2008 State Legislation

Governor Rounds signed House Bill 1178 relating to funding for Meth treatment in the women's state correctional system.  Appropriations include $1,642,021 - nearly $139,000 less than last year.  16 fulltime employees are allotted to the program.  The funds and employees are drawn from the Department of Human Services, the Department of Corrections and the Department of Health.

Governor Rounds also signed HB1201 into law.  This bill extends state protection to abused or neglected children who may be returned to homes with substance-abusing parents.  If the court determines that the abuse/neglect was related in any way to substance use/abuse, the return of the child to the home will be subject to the caregivers' submitting to tests.  If the adult refuses or tests positive, the child may be taken immediately from the home.
