January, 2007

8 - Rapid City MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present statewide statistics and information on MAPP-SD services and resources at the West River Prevention Network quarterly meeting at Youth & Family Services Girls Inc.

8 - Watertown Kathy Asper, Meth Prevention Coordinator, will provide a Meth informational session to the NESD Board of Realtors, beginning at 12:30 at the Hunters Inn.

9 - Rapid City MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present information about Meth use and its symptoms to the Ellsworth Air Force Base youth center staff.

10 - Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will offer information on Meth use, related health issues, signs and traits of Meth users and scene indicators for the Sioux Valley Paramedics.

13 - Hermosa - MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present Ditch Walk Safety for 4H leaders during their annual meeting/conference

16 - Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will offer two training sessions concerning Meth in Our Schools during the Sioux Falls School District Support Staff Conference.

16- Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will provide informational sessions on Meth awareness to the staff of Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School

17 - Watertown Members of the Codington County/Watertown MAPP-SD Coalition will provide a Meth awareness and educational presentation to University of South Dakota nursing students at the Lake Area Tech.

18 - Rapid City  Panel of Rapid City area judges will share information about how Meth is impacting the judicial system at the MAPP-SD Rapid City Meth Coalition quarterly meeting from 12:00-1:00 at Youth & Family Services Girls Inc.

23-LaPlant (Tentative date) MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer Meth 101 for Parents, information on Meth and its impact on children, for the parents and staff at Tiospaye Topa School.

25 - Yankton MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Tammy Scott will offer information on Meth use and the affects of Meth addiction in a community forum in the dining room at Mt. Marty College.  The presentation begins at 7:30PM.

26 - Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will present information on the impact of parental Meth effects on children to the education staff at Children's Home Society. 

31 - Sturgis MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer Meth Signs & Symptoms and Drug Endangered Children (DEC) information on signs and symptoms of Meth use, as well as effects on children due to parental Meth use to the nursing staff of Sturgis Regional Hospital. Staff will also be trained on Northern Hills regional DEC protocols that have been adopted by the Northern Hills DEC Team.

6 – Todd County Meth Prevention Coordinator Tammy Scott will offer a Meth awareness presentation from 11:30AM - 3:30PM at the Todd County High School for the White Buffalo Calf Women Shelter Violence Workshop

7 - Yankton MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will present information on the addictive nature of Meth, as well as the resulting deterioration, to students of Mount Marty College's Chemical Dependency and Human Behavior course.

7 – St. Francis Meth Prevention Coordinator Tammy Scott will offer a Meth awareness presentation from 11:30AM - 3:30PM at the St. Francis Indian School for the White Buffalo Calf Women Shelter Violence Workshop.

8 - Woonsocket MAPP-SD VP Kevin Jensen will present information on the signs and symptoms of Meth use, the dangers of Meth labs and more for the Woonsocket Health Council in the high school gym beginning at 6 PM.

8 - Spearfish A school staff presentation for K-12 teachers at the High School will include information on the signs and symptoms of Meth use and child endangerment presented by a panel including MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas with law enforcement and child protective services

9 - Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will provide Meth awareness training to the staff of Metavante.

9 - Rapid City Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas  will offer a school staff presentation for West Middle School staff on the signs and symptoms of Meth use as well as parental use and child endangerment issues.

12 - Rapid City Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will provide information to a group of interfaith church members who are working on providing support groups and other services for individuals recovering from Meth use, beginning at 7:00 PM

12 – Yankton Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will present information on the effects of Meth on a user’s body, as well as its impact on families and communities, starting at 7PM

14 - Rapid City Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer information on the basics of Meth at the Headlines Academy, beginning at 9:00 AM

14 - Rapid Valley The school staff of Valley View Elementary School staff will receive information on the signs and symptoms of Meth use as well as parental use and child endangerment issues from Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas.

15 – Watertown Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will offer Meth awareness training for parents at Immaculate Conception School, beginning at 7PM

15 - Watertown
MAPP-SD VP Kevin Jensen will provide Drug Endangered Children Team regional training.

15 - Rapid City From 10AM until 3PM, MAPP-SD will offer information and resources on Meth and what the public can do about the issue during the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology health fair.

16 – Watertown Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will offer Meth awareness training for parents at Watertown Middle School from 6:30-8 PM 

16 - Rapid City Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer a presentation for city landfill workers on Meth labs and safety information beginning at 2PM.

16 – Todd County Meth Prevention Coordinator Tammy Scott will present an all day Meth education training for school staff during the Todd County School District Regional In-Service.

19 - Rapid City People who work in "Chance Encounter Occupations" (anyone who could encounter a Meth lab or individual under the influence of Meth while on the job, i.e. plumbers, realtors, property managers, delivery workers, utility workers, etc.) are invited to an informational presentation on the signs and symptoms of Meth use, a Meth labs overview and safety information offered by Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas beginning at 3PM.

20 - Rapid City A second session of safety training for "Chance Encounter Occupations" will be presented by Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas beginning at 7:30AM.

21 - Madison MAPP-SD VP Kevin Jensen will offer information on the signs and symptoms of Meth use and the impact on children for students at Dakota State University.

23 – Irene Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will provide a Meth informational session for the Irene/Wakonda school district staff in-service

24 – Aberdeen Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will provide Meth Awareness Training for Thrivent Insurance Community Volunteers at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church beginning at noon. 

26 - Rapid City Meth Prevention coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer safety training for Rapid City area home inspectors, including Meth use signs and symptoms and labs overview and safety information, starting at 3PM.

26 – Mission Meth Prevention Coordinator Tammy Scott will present Meth information to the SGU Survey of Alcohol & Drugs Class beginning at 4PM.


March 2007

5 - Watertown Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will offer a presentation on the dangers of Meth in the workplace for Consolidated Ready Mix employees.

5 – Sturgis Social workers in offices of the Department of Social Services in the Northern Hills region will learn the latest known information about the effects of Meth on children in a special presentation provided by Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas starting at 11 AM.

5 – Rapid City
Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer training to "God's Girls", an interfaith group who offer support to Meth users in recovery, about the effects of Meth and working with Meth addicts.

5 – Rapid City AAA Plumbing will host Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas and safety training for individuals who could be exposed to the dangers of Meth while on the job (use or labs) beginning at 7:30AM.

7 - Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will offer training on the impact of Meth use and production on children to staff of the Children's Home Society, child care counselors, family therapists and foster care staff. 

12 - Yankton Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will offer an informational session for parents on how to talk to their teens about Meth as a part of the Southeast Job Link ‘Matter of Fact Monday’ Series, beginning at 7PM.

12 - Watertown Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will present information on the dangers of Meth in the workplace for Lake Area Technical Institute's Human Services Technician Program students, beginning at 10 AM.

13 - DDN Presentation MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will offer training to school staff, parents and community members across the state through the DDN Network focusing on the signs and symptoms of Meth use and manufacturing.

April 2007

5 Freeman Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will present Meth Awareness for a Rural community at the Regional Health Services conference room beginning at 6PM.

11 Brookings Meth Prevention Coordinator Jeanne Ward will offer Meth awareness training during the 4-H Professional Development Conference starting at 2:30 PM at the Midway State Camp.

17 Brookings Foster parent training in regards to Meth’s impact on children will be offered by Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church beginning at 7PM.

18 – Ft. Pierre Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer training on the signs & symptoms of Meth use, child endangerment training and working with clients in recovery to Meth addiction for participants at TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) statewide conference starting at 3PM.

18 Brookings Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will offer medical staff training on Meth at the Brookings Hospital at noon.

21 - Watertown Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will provide information and training on Meth and Drug Endangered Children for Codington County Extension's Child Care Providers Conference beginning at 2PM. 

21 - Watertown  MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will present information about Meth lab dangers during the Game Fish & Parks Hunter Safety Course

23 – Watertown Coalition members will provide a booth and short presentation concerning Meth information during the town hall meeting, “Empowering Parents” at the County Fair Banquet Hall from 7-9PM.

23 Sisseton MAPP-SD VP Kevin Jensen and MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Jeanne Ward will be available for questions and resources during the Meth Awareness Day for the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe. 

25 Watertown The staff of the Immaculate Conception School will receive Meth awareness training from Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper beginning at 2PM.

26 – Watertown Coalition members will offer Meth information as a part of the Woman's Resource Center's National Crime Victim's Rights Week public gathering, held at the County Fair Banquet Hall from 7:30-8:30PM.

26 Hamlin Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will offer Meth awareness training for parents starting at 6:30PM.

26 Milbank As part of the Health Choices Fair at the Koch Elementary School, MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Jeanne Ward will present information about the impact of Meth use and manufacturing.


30 Rapid City MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present information on signs and symptoms of Meth use as well as the impacts on children for volunteers of the Rapid City area CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program

30 – Yankton MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will present information on Meth and health care workers to Southeast Tech Institute LPN students starting at 9:00am at the Job Link Building.


May 2007

2 - Belle Fourche Belle Fourche Regional Clinic nursing staff and physicians will receive training on DEC (Drug Endangered Children) including signs and symptoms of Meth use, Meth effects on children and the Northern Hills DEC protocols, presented by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas.

8 -Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will offer information about Meth abuse, signs and symptoms of use and impact on children to the South Dakota Nurses Association, district 10, at the Doral Centre.

10 - Aberdeen MAPP-SD VP Kevin Jensen will offer training on Meth lab clean-up and remediation to the South Dakota Association of Assessing Officers meeting at the Ramkota.

14 – Rapid City Beginning at 10AM, the Gold Star Motel staff will be trained in MAPP-SD's METH ALERT for Hotels program, including information on how to recognize suspicious activity related to use, distribution and manufacture of Meth, as well as preventive measures hotels can take to deter such criminals from setting up their "businesses" in the hotel rooms.

16 - Rapid City Members of the Rapid City Rushmore Lions Club will learn about Ditch Walk Safety, in a presentation by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas, before their annual cleanup project.

18 – Rapid City Beginning at 5PM, the Budget Inn Motel staff will be trained in MAPP-SD's METH ALERT for Hotels program, including information on how to recognize suspicious activity related to use, distribution and manufacture of Meth, as well as preventive measures hotels can take to deter such criminals from setting up their "businesses" in the hotel rooms.

19 - Rapid City MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will offer detailed information on Meth use and dental health to the South Dakota Dental Association meeting at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

23 – Rapid City Starting at 9AM, the Super 8 Motel (on I-90) staff will be trained in MAPP-SD's METH ALERT for Hotels program, including information on how to recognize suspicious activity related to use, distribution and manufacture of Meth, as well as preventive measures hotels can take to deter such criminals from setting up their "businesses" in the hotel rooms.

31 - Rapid City
Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present Meth information for the Multi-housing Association as part of the Rapid City Police Department's Crime-free Multi-housing training. Information will include tips for recognizing signs and symptoms of Meth use, distribution and manufacture in rental properties, and preventative measures that property managers can take to protect their apartments and rental homes.


June

2 – Watertown A MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator will offer information on hunter safety issues related to Meth lab waste during the HuntSafe Course with the state Game, Fish and Parks Dept at the Great Plains Lutheran High School Auditorium.

4 - Black Hawk Staff of the Ramada Inn will have a safety and awareness training presented by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas.  Training will include information on warning signs for suspicious Meth-related activity in hotels, including signs of Meth use, distribution and manufacture in the rooms, as well as signs to watch for during check-in and throughout the stay.

6 –Brookings A MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator will present Meth awareness training for parents at the Ascension Lutheran Church beginning at 6:30PM. 

6 – Yankton Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will offer information on Meth lab dangers and child endangerment to members of the Yankton Area Mental Wellness, Inc. 

6 - Brookings POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
 The Police Department Staff will receive training on Meth awareness and details on the Drug Endangered Children protocol during three, two-hour sessions at the police department.

13 – Brookings A MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator will offer information on Meth contamination to members of the Realty Association during their regular meeting.

16 - Rapid City The MAPP-SD Rapid City Meth Coalition will set up a booth with information at Storybook Island's Health & Safety Day from 10 AM to 2 PM

20 – Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will offer an informational session on the signs and symptoms of Meth use and manufacturing, the inherent dangers of Meth labs and the impact on children during the Educators Summer Symposium beginning at 1:10PM.

20 - Rapid City Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present information on the dangers of Meth and its effects on users and others for Southern Hills Alcohol & Drug clients.

21 – Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will offer an informational session on the signs and symptoms of Meth use and manufacturing, the inherent dangers of Meth labs and the impact on children during the Educators Summer Symposium beginning at 9:20AM.

Rapid City - Meth 101 for Parents The MAPP-SD Rapid City Meth Coalition is sponsoring a series of training sessions in various neighborhoods in Rapid City. Parents will learn not only about Meth and its dangers, but will walk away with real tools to help them both prevent Meth use and intervene if trouble is suspected.  8 sessions will be offered, so parents will be able to attend any date/location that is most convenient for them. All sessions will be from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Please click here for dates and locations.

19 – Rapid City MAPP-SD Rapid City Meth Coalition quarterly meeting with special guest presentation by a Drug Recognition Expert from the SD Highway Patrol. The meeting begins at noon and is open to the public. 

23 - Sioux Falls MAPP-SD VP Kevin Jensen will present a 'train the trainers' informational session on Meth use signs and symptoms as well as lab dangers for school bus drivers' trainers. 

23- Brookings The Sheriff’s Department Staff will receive training on Meth awareness and details on the Drug Endangered Children protocol at the Sheriff's Office 

25 - Box Elder MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present a 'train the trainers' informational session on Meth use signs and symptoms as well as lab dangers for school bus drivers' trainers. 


August

7- Clark There will be an all staff in-service for the Clark schools covering general Meth information, plus mandatory reporter information regarding the state's laws related to Drug Endangered Children.  Please contact the MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator in the area for details.

11 – Watertown A MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator will offer information on hunter safety issues related to Meth lab waste during the HuntSafe Course with the state Game, Fish and Parks Dept at the Great Plains Lutheran High School Auditorium.

14 - Belle Fourche POSTPONED MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present Meth safety information related to Meth use and manufacture during the Bureau of Land Management safety meeting beginning at 1PM.

22 - Brookings A MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator will offer training regarding the signs and symptoms of Meth use and Drug Endangered Children from 1:30-3PM at the SDSU Student Health and Counseling Center.
 

29 & 30 - Eagle Butte MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas and CRST Coalition Against Meth members will have a booth at the annual CRST Health Fair. Information and resources will be available at the booth.


September

7 -Rapid City During the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists in South Dakota (ASCLS-SD) Convention, Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present information on signs and symptoms of Meth use, Meth manufacture, dangers and effects on the community.

9 -Burke MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will offer a community informational session concerning the signs and symptoms of Meth use and manufacturing, plus the dangers posed to communities by Meth.  The public is invited to attend this meeting, starting at 2PM in the Burke Civic Center.

10 - Rapid City Black Hills area Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will provide an overview of the Meth Prevention Strategies presentation to school counselors, prevention professionals and others in attendance at the West River Prevention Network quarterly meeting in Rapid City. This meeting is open to coalition members, prevention specialists, counselors and others interested in prevention issues in Western South Dakota. 11, 12, 13 - Huron, Brookings, Aberdeen, Mitchell, Yankton - MAPP-SD Prevention Coordinators will present training on Meth and Meth labs pertaining to employees of the NorthWestern Energy Company. 

17 - Winner MAPP-SD Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper is assisting Thrivent in providing three community trainings: General Community training in rural safety issues related to Meth at the Senior Citizens Center from 9-10AM, information for the staff at the Adjustment Training Center from 1:30-3PM, and Volunteer Fire Department staff training from 7-8:30PM.


18 - Rapid City
The Rapid City Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present information on Meth and its impacts to property managers and landlords, as well as important prevention and safety information, at the Multi-housing Association training at the Rapid City Police Department (sub-station at Rushmore Mall)

19 - Brookings MAPP-SD Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper and Brookings Hospital EMS Director Jim Schoepf will provide training on how to recognize and respond to Meth-related dangers, especially those related to making home visits, to Counseling and Treatment staff at East Central Mental Health Center

22 - Lead MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present "Keeping Kids Meth Free" from 9:45-11:00 AM at the first annual Northern Hills Youth Risk Conference at Golden Hills Resort. The session will include information about Meth, as well as important tips for sharing this information with teens. 24 - Rapid City Mahoney Neighborhood Watch invites concerned citizens to attend a training provided by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas. The presentation will include information on recognizing suspicious activity related to Meth use, distribution and manufacture, as well as Meth's impacts on the whole community. Session will begin at 7:30 PM at the Rapid City Police Department station at the Rushmore Mall (near Herberger's).

26 - Sturgis - Meade County School transportation employees will receive safety and awareness training on Meth from MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas starting at 10 AM

28 - Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will present information on Meth use signs and symptoms and the impact on healthcare workers during Grand Rounds at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
 


October

5 - Rapid City Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present "Meth in Indian Country" at an in-service for Shannon County teachers and parents at the Ramkota.

6 - Rapid City MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present two sessions at the South Dakota School-Age Care Alliance conference. Session topics will be "The Effects of Parental Meth Use on Kids" and "Helping Kids Stay Meth-Free."
 
9- Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will offer information on the impact of parental Meth use or manufacturing on children to the staff of Citibank Childcare Center.

10 - Brookings MAPP-SD Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper and Officer Joe Fishbacher will provide training on Drug Endangered Children Protocol to the Police Department Personnel at during three separate sessions.

10 - Rapid City MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer general Meth awareness information to the First United Methodist Church women's fellowship group

12 - Wanblee A day of presentations will include specialized information for program employees, school staff and the general public during three sessions

14 - Hosmer MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Jeanne Ward will offer a community informational session on Meth and its impact in rural areas beginning at 3PM in the St. John's Lutheran Church fellowship hall.

15 - Bridgewater The community is invited to a session on the dangers of Meth use and manufacturing, and the signs of Meth use, presented by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor at the Bridgewater school beginning at 6:30PM.

16 - Eagle Butte Oglala Lakota College students and faculty/staff will learn about the dangers of Meth and its impacts on the community, and the impact on their future career fields in an evening session at OLC presented by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas.

17 & 19 - Rapid City The Region 8 Head Start Conference organizers have invited MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas to present information on Home Visitor Safety related to Meth use during their annual conference and two sessions on the impact of Meth on children.

23 - Rapid City MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer training on the medical effects of Meth and possible complications to physicians in residence at the Residency Clinic

24 - Madison  MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper will have Meth information available during the Health Fair in the Trojan Center on the Dakota State University campus from 11AM-1PM

5 - Wagner MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will provide information to parents concerning the dangers and effects of Meth for the Wagner Community School Early Learning Center.

8 - Spearfish Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will provide information on Meth and its effects, child endangerment issues and more for Northern Hills Foster Parent Association meeting

8 -Java Community members are invited to a presentation by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Jeanne Ward on basic Meth information.  The session begins at 6:30PM at the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

13 - Highmore A MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator will provide a range of information on Meth, including signs of use and manufacturing, rural safety issues and more for Hyde County community members.  The training will begin at 7PM in the Highmore School gym

15 – Leola Community members are invited to a Meth training session beginning at 7:30PM in the school gym.  A MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator will provide information on Meth issues, including rural safety matters and signs of Meth use or manufacturing.

16 - Sioux Falls Interlakes CAP-Head Start will receive information and training on remaining safe while doing home visits in a potential Meth situation.  MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will provide the session. 

19 – Spencer MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will present information on Meth lab dangers and the impact Meth has on children during an open community session beginning at 8AM in the Spencer Community Building

26 - Kyle Little Wound School staff will learn about the dangers of Meth, Signs and Symptoms of use, how to recognize parent or student Meth use, how it impacts students and what they can do during a presentation by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas

27 – Sioux Falls MAPP-SD VP Kevin Jensen will present information concerning Meth to pharmacy technician students at Southeast Technical Institute (Rescheduled from 11/13)

28 - Eagle Butte
MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will provide information to the Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School staff about the dangers of Meth, signs and symptoms of use, how to recognize parent or student Meth use, how it impacts students and what they can do

28 - Watertown
MAPP-SD Prevention Coordinator Kathy Asper and Detective Chad Carpenter of the Watertown Police Department will provide training regarding dangers of Meth use to students in the Human Services Class at Lake Area Technical Institute from 4-6PM.

30 - Eagle Butte CRST Meth Awareness Day - An Anti-Meth Walk will begin at 10AM at the Upper Elementary and conclude at the tribal administration office.  There will be an Open Mic time for tribal members to share their concerns and impacts of Meth on themselves, their families, their programs and the Tribe as a whole. These events will be concluded with a presentation by MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas concerning "Meth in Indian Country," discussing the unique challenges and assets that Tribes bring to the Meth fight. Presentation begins at 1 PM at tribal administration after a free lunch

3 – Vermillion MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will present information about Meth, and the signs of use, to students in the Dental Hygiene Department at the University of South Dakota

3 - Whitewood MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer a Meth 101 for Parents session at Hale Hall beginning at 6 PM.  She will present information on Meth and its dangers; signs and symptoms to recognize use in their loved ones, and tips for prevention and intervention if a problem is suspected.

5 – Clark Residents are invited to a Community Forum in the school, beginning at 7PM.  The forum will include information from a MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator on the signs and symptoms of Meth use, plus interview with a recovering addict. 11 – Chamberlain MAPP-SD VP Kevin Jensen will offer Meth information and training to the Develop Corp/Chamber beginning at noon.

11 - Belle Fourche MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will offer will learn important safety information related to possible Meth lab waste in rural areas for the Bureau of Land Management

11 - Sturgis "Meth 101 for Parents" welcomes all residents to attend the open community forum. Participants will learn the dangers of Meth, signs and symptoms to recognize Meth use in their children, children's friends or other loved ones. They will also learn valuable strategies that can empower them to prevent their teens' involvement with alcohol, tobacco or other drugs and ways to intervene if trouble is suspected.  MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will provide the training from 6:30-8:00PM at the Sturgis Community Center

13 - Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Audrey Ticknor will offer information concerning the damage Meth causes in relation to dentistry and general health to the Southeast Technical Institute Dental Assisting Class.

19 – Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will provide information on Meth use/manufacturing signs and symptoms, the danger Meth poses to children and safety issues to Child Protection Services personnel.

20 – Sioux Falls MAPP-SD Director Darcy Jensen will offer information to the Transition Interagency Council members concerning Meth and intervention techniques, identifying students and adults at risk, and services available. 

21 - Rapid City – MAPP-SD Meth Prevention Coordinator Nikkole Abbas will present information on the signs and symptoms of Meth use and child endangerment in two sessions at school in-service trainings during the Lakota Nations Invitational basketball tournament.  These sessions are also open to parents. Sessions begin at 9:00 and 10:30 at the Ramkota
